Properties of carbonless copy paper
This paper type can be used to create multiple copies of a document. By writing on the top sheet, the information is transferred onto sheets beneath. In order for the mechanism to work, the different sheets in non-carbon copy paper have a different coating and are arranged in a specific order. The copying process is made possible through a chemical reaction between the coatings of the individual sheets.
The top sheet has dye or ink on the back side and the middle sheet below is coated on both sides, thereby receiving and transferring the information onto the bottom sheet. The bottom sheet is coated on the front only. Therefore, the order of the individual sheets in a set is of major importance. The copying mechanism is triggered when pressure is applied on the top sheet (e.g. with a pen).
Wood-free carbonless forms can be ordered in two-part or three-part sets in our web shop. Carbonless copy paper is available as glued individual sets or pads comprising multiple sets. The top sheet is bright white when unprinted and the second and third sheet are pink and yellow, respectively. The different colours allow the original document to be distinguished easily from the copies.

Tips on choosing carbonless copy paper
Which colours can be printed on the different sheets of carbonless copy paper?
The front of the bright white top sheet can be printed in four colours. In our online shop, you can also specify to have the back of the top sheet printed in black, e.g. with notes and small print. Choose 4/1 carbonless copy paper for this purpose.
The intermediary and bottom sheets are always printed monochrome black only.
Which pens can be used on carbonless copy paper?
Since the chemical reaction on the carbonless forms is triggered by pressure, it is best to use pens that apply pressure on the sheet while writing, such as ball pens and pencils. Self-inking pens like highlighter pens or felt pens are not suitable.
What does "wood-free" mean?
"Wood-free" paper contains up to five percent lignin. Lignin is responsible for paper turning yellow. Due to the lower lignin content, wood-free paper preserves its white longer.
